Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has distributed 140 operational vehicles to security agencies across the state in a renewed effort to improve law enforcement capacity and bolster public safety.
The occasion, held at the Gusau Trade Fair Complex, also featured the commissioning of 50 new mass transit buses to enhance the state’s public transportation network.
The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, served as the guest of honour at the dual ceremony, which marks one of the most extensive mobility support exercises for security forces in Zamfara’s recent history.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the operational vehicles — including double-cabin pick-up trucks and Buffalo vehicles — are intended to support various security outfits active in the state.
Governor Lawal, speaking during the event, said the initiative reflects his administration’s strategic and proactive approach to tackling insecurity. He noted that the deployment of the vehicles would improve response times, increase patrol reach, and reinforce law enforcement operations across troubled areas.
“This gesture further demonstrates our administration’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of our security agencies in their duty to protect lives and secure communities,” Lawal said. “It aligns with our promise to deploy all available resources to confront criminality and restore peace in Zamfara.”
In addition to equipping federal security bodies, Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s support for the state-owned Community Protection Guards, established to complement existing forces and encourage local participation in security efforts.
Turning to the public transport sector, the Governor announced the launch of 50 new buses as part of a broader mass transit reform. The fleet, he explained, is aimed at improving inter- and intra-state movement while promoting economic activity.
“All the buses are fitted with real-time monitoring systems and will offer free Wi-Fi services to passengers. We’ve also introduced a fleet management system to ensure transparency and prevent revenue leakages,” he said.
Lawal concluded by honouring fallen officers who paid the ultimate price in defence of the state, vowing continued support to their families.
