The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), has commended the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye, for what it described as transformative leadership and improvements in electricity distribution across the Abuja franchise area.

CONYL said the reported improvements in power supply under Okwuokenye’s leadership had renewed confidence among residents, businesses and other electricity consumers who depend on reliable power for their daily activities.

The coalition disclosed this in a statement jointly signed by its President-General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Adeyemo Adewale.

He said the development was significant against the backdrop of longstanding challenges in Nigeria’s electricity sector, where unreliable supply has continued to affect households, businesses, healthcare facilities and other critical sectors of the economy.

The group also linked Okwuokenye’s leadership approach to the broader objective of improving public service delivery under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the coalition, “Since assuming the leadership of AEDC, his administration has, in our assessment, brought a renewed sense of direction and urgency to the company’s operations. His reported commitment to working round the clock, engaging with operational realities and driving improvements across the electricity distribution network deserves commendation.

“The people of Abuja and communities within the AEDC franchise area deserve an electricity distribution system that is dependable, responsive and customer-oriented.

“Every improvement in electricity supply translates into more productive businesses, stronger livelihoods, greater economic activity and an enhanced quality of life for ordinary Nigerians. Electricity is not a luxury. It is an indispensable pillar of modern economic civilization.

“That is why CONYL believes that every Nigerian who contributes meaningfully to improving electricity availability deserves recognition, encouragement and constructive public support. Under Engr. Okwuokenye’s leadership, Abuja’s electricity distribution landscape has, in the view of many residents and businesses, witnessed encouraging improvements.

“These developments have strengthened confidence among residents, entrepreneurs, investors and commercial operators who depend heavily on reliable electricity to sustain their activities.

“Indeed, a city powered by reliable electricity is a city empowered for productivity, investment and prosperity. Abuja is the nation’s capital and must remain a shining example of what is possible when public-interest leadership, professional competence and institutional responsibility converge.”

CONYL urged AEDC management to sustain the momentum by improving infrastructure, deepening engagement with consumers, strengthening customer service and ensuring that gains in electricity supply become sustainable.

The coalition said sustainable reform of Nigeria’s electricity sector would require cooperation among government, distribution companies, regulators, workers, communities and consumers.

It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives capable of improving the living conditions of Nigerians, particularly efforts that enhance electricity availability and create a more conducive environment for businesses and young entrepreneurs.

“Abuja is grateful. Businesses are hopeful. Residents are encouraged. And Nigerian youths are watching.”

CONYL said, while urging Okwuokenye to sustain the drive for greater efficiency, reliability and customer satisfaction.
