Praying-ground-CopyEKITI State governor, Ayodele Fayose has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of sacrificial giving as the nation faces tough economic challenges.

In his Sallah message in Ado-Ekiti yesterday through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, the governor also advised religious leaders in the country not to play politics with religion.

He said that Nigeria needed the total commitment of all to become great, saying emphasising divisive tendencies among the people at this point would not do anybody any good.

“Such divisive tendencies based on religion or ethnicity will only create gulf among us instead of bridges to connect us. Our religious leaders must also be careful not to use the bodies and people they lead to fan embers of discord by mixing religion with politics. “We must note that this period calls for sacrifice on the part of everybody. We must be ready to give all as Prophet Ibrahim decided to offer his son as sacrifice to Allah and he reaped the great reward of obedience. And as we celebrate, we must be sober and show moderation as well,” he said.

Also, Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun yesterday called on the Muslim community to imbibe the culture of the rule of law and selfless service “so that Nigeria can emerge a great nation.”

The governor was of the view that, “through total obedience and selfless sacrifice, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim, the faithful would receive abundant blessings and favour from the Almighty Allah.”

In his goodwill message, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, the governor said “the unconditional obedience of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as commanded by Allah and the teachings of the Holy Qur’an offer guidance on how a country undergoing many challenges can emerge better and stronger.”

“Therefore, the import of Eid-el-Kabir should not be lost on us as Muslims even as we count our blessings and celebrate the goodness of Allah in our lives,” the governor said.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko at sallah implored Muslims in the country to use the period of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to reflect on their contribution as individuals to the project Nigeria.

In his sallah message issued by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, Mimiko charged all Muslims across the nation to do more towards making the project work.

He enjoined all Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, love and good neighbourliness among themselves.

He said it is only by doing this that they will be living up to the expectations of God, which in no small measure enhance even development and progress in all spheres of human endeavours.

For the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade, Muslims in the country must embrace peace and refrain from all acts that could threaten the peace of the country during and after the Eld-El-Kabir.

The monarch in a statement by his personal assistant, Chief Isiaka Akinpelu urged Nigerians to eschew all acts of intolerance that could further complicate the security challenges the country is currently passing through.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka felicitated with all Moslems in Nigeria, urging them to imbibe the lessons of sacrifice and love which the festival signifies.

Isiaka in a message yesterday, specifically enjoined Ogun indigenes to use the unique period of Eid-el-Kabir to pray for the state to come out of its various socio-economic challenges that are threatening security of lives and property, which had forced the government to impose partial curfew in the state.

While urging all Ogun State residents to show love for one another, he noted that the festival provided a new opportunity to show compassion especially for the less privileged, stressing that, “only peaceful co-existence, selfless service to the nation especially our dear state, and total obedience to God, as was demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim could take the state to the promised land.”

Isiaka, who is still challenging the victory of Governor Ibikunle Amosun at the tribunal, noted that Eid-el-Kabir is a celebration of trust between man and God, rooted in the fulfillment of promises and urged the people to always hold their leaders accountable and ensure they deliver on their promises.

While Osun State lawmaker, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has called on Nigerians, especially Muslims to emulate the spirit of sacrifice, selflessness and sincerity exhibited by Prophet Ibrahim in the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir.

He made the call in his Sallah message to the Muslim community in Obokun, in Osun State.

He said that Nigeria, at this time, needed loyal services from its citizenry as corruption has done a lot of harms to the welfare of its people, hence, the need for everyone to renew their commitment towards a better coun
