THE Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, yesterday kick-started the process of launching a national security campaign to counter insurgency across the nation, especially in the North-East geo-political zone.

The Minister met with representatives of relevant agencies in Abuja in an effort to design a national communication strategy for the campaign, which aims at sensitising Nigerians on their role in the fight against insurgency with a view to ensuring that they support and also own the war.

Meanwhile, Mohammed at an interactive session with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, yesterday, also reiterated his earlier statement that under the present administration, all Nigerians would have equal access to the publicly-owned media without any inhibition.

Mohammed said the President Muhammadu Buhari administration would not abuse the trust reposed in it by depriving Nigerians, irrespective of their political, religious or ethnic background, the opportunity to ventilate their views through the public media.

Addressing the meeting, Mohammed said: “The military may be doing its best, but it cannot win the war alone. No insurgency has ever been won only by military prowess.
