Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has said his administration is critically studying the issues surrounding moribund state-owned industries for immediate revival.

The governor, while reiterating his commitment to reviving state-owned companies, stressed the importance of bringing back the industries in the face of unemployment in the state.

The Catholic priest hinted on legal issues surrounding some of these companies and promised to commence discussions with relevant parties to regain control and restore them for the benefit of the people.

He emphasised the importance of getting the system working without any excuse, and urged investors to take advantage of the conducive environment his administration created.

Responding to a question by a member of the Conference of Benue Journalists (CBJ), in Makurdi, on what efforts his government was making to revive moribund industries in the state, the governor assured Benue indigenes of positive results soon.

Alia beckoned investors to make the state their destination, declaring that the insecurity in the Food Basket state had become history. The governor said his administration had taken decisive steps to address the security challenges, infrastructure deficit and the debt burden that had plagued the state for years.

Benue, according to him, witnessed increase in both local and foreign investments in recent times, as a result of the return of peace and his administration’s efforts towards creating an enabling environment for businesses.

Speaking during a meeting with journalists, Alia urged investors to take advantage of the opportunities that abound in the state, especially in the areas of agriculture, tourism and mineral resources, and make the state a preferred investment destination.

He disclosed that his administration had procured 100 new buses for the state-owned transport company, Benue Links, to improve services and ease the burden of transportation following the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.

The Guardian gathered that Alia’s government is also paying keen interest to people-oriented projects, while prioritising agriculture, human capital development, health and infrastructure upgrade among others in line with his administration’s 7-point agenda.
