The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance (CCSOGG) has condemned Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, for inviting police officers to join a planned protest, describing the move as “desperate, irresponsible, and a threat to national security.”
In a statement on Wednesday signed by its General Secretary, Comrade Olalekan Johnson, the coalition expressed alarm over Sowore’s intentions, stating that his call for police involvement in the protest is not driven by a genuine concern for the welfare of the police force, but rather a sinister motive to further his own political agenda.
“We find this call not only laughable but also dangerous, irresponsible, and a continuation of Sowore’s attack against the police force, particularly its leadership.
“Sowore’s attempt to coerce officers and men of the police into partaking in his protest is a threat to national security and betrays a sinister motive to infiltrate and manipulate the force for his own propaganda purposes.”
The coalition accused Sowore of having ulterior motives, noting that his political relevance continues to wane and that he is desperate to destabilize Nigeria and compromise the country’s internal peace.
“He has always paraded himself as an activist, but Nigerians now know better: Sowore is a politician with his own interest and those of his external financiers,” the statement added.
CCSOGG called on patriotic officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to be wary of Sowore’s manipulations and not allow themselves to be used as pawns in the hands of selfish politicians.
The coalition also expressed its overwhelming confidence in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force under Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
“We put Mr. Sowore and his co-travelers on notice that we shall not fold our arms and watch him destroy this country under any guise. As responsible stakeholders, we will act swiftly and decisively to protect the people.”
