The Niger Delta Rebirth Organisation has dismissed allegations that the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dennis Otuaro, is orchestrating troubles in the Niger Delta region.
The allegations were made by the Warri Media Group, which claimed that Otuaro is undermining peace efforts in the region and was involved in the removal of Edith Eyesan as Executive Vice President, Upstream, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.).
In a statement, signed by the Niger Delta Rebirth Organisation’s spokesperson, Eregbene Pascal, described the allegations as misleading and baseless, saying that Otuaro has been working tirelessly to achieve the mandate of peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.
The group noted that Otuaro’s efforts have led to improved security and business activities in the region, and that he has continued to work closely with ex-agitators, community leaders, and government agencies to ensure that PAP beneficiaries receive their entitlements.
The group also condemned attempts to bring the country’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, into the matter, describing it as hypocritical and an attempt to gain undue sympathy.
They maintained that Otuaro is committed to achieving the aims of the PAP and has nothing to do with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s delineation exercise in Warri.
The statement further stated that the allegation that Otuaro was involved in the removal of Edith Eyesan is unfounded, and that Otuaro’s sterling performance in the last year has been one of the best since the creation of the PAP 14 years ago.
They noted that under Otuaro’s leadership, the PAP has made significant progress, including reducing tension and conflicts in the region, and providing real empowerment programmes to beneficiaries.
The statement reads: “Mr. Otuaro’s sterling performance in the last one year has been termed one of the best years since the last 14 years of the creation of PAP.
“Apart from reducing tension and conflicts in the region, he has continued to work closely with ex-agitators, community leaders, and government agencies so as to ensure that PAP beneficiaries receive their entitlements as and when due.
“ Gone are the days of just stipend payment, beneficiaries now get real empowerment programmes via training, skills development, and business support to help ex-agitators fit back into the society. All these have led to improved security and business activities in the Niger Delta,” the statement added.
