Group faults NLC over ‘hypocritical’ stance on Ajaero’s arrest, fuel prices

The Middle Belt Solidarity League (MBS), on Tuesday, condemned the Nigeria Labor Congress’s (NLC) call for the release of its President, Joe Ajaero, and demand for reduced fuel prices, labeling it as ‘hypocritical’.

MBS criticized the NLC for remaining silent when fuel prices were increased to accommodate their demanded salary hikes.

MBS Chairman, Fidelis Riyom, and Secretary, Martha Bako, in a statement, called on Nigerians of good conscience to oppose such actions, regardless of the individuals involved.

They said: “The NLC’s sudden concern for fuel prices is a smokescreen for their true intentions protecting Ajaero from accountability for his treasonous activities.

“Their claim that the Department of State Services (DSS) is targeting labor leaders is baseless and a desperate attempt to shield Ajaero from justice.

“We declare as follows, Ajaero’s involvement in providing a hideout for a foreigner to finance violent protests as part of a plot to overthrow the democratically elected government crosses the line into treason.

“His arrest by the DSS is necessary, timely, and demonstrates that no one is beyond the reach of justice.

“We call on the DSS to intensify its investigations and place under surveillance all suspected accomplices to this undemocratic plot. Justice must be swift, and those who dare violate the law of the land must face the full weight of the consequences.”

MBS condemned the Trade Union Congress (TUC) President, Mr. Festus Osifo, for his “misguided attempt to obstruct the investigation of Joe Ajaero’s treasonous activities.”
