A group, under the auspices of the Concerned Edo Youth Forum (CEYF), yesterday strongly condemned the protest by some youths that led to the disruption of business activities at the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) office on the Benin-Warri-Sapele Road on Monday.

Speaking in Benin City, the Edo State capital yesterday, co-ordinator of the group, Okungbowa Osagie, described the protest by members of the Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) as despicable and worrisome.

They had protested to the office of the NPDC, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Benin City over alleged marginalisation of Edo people and demanded immediate employment for 1,000 Edo youths.

But Osagie said his group had been working towards the social political development of the state and frowned at attempts by some alleged sponsored Edo youths to drag a notable leader of Benin extraction into disrepute.

“We are aware that the leader of the group, Mr. Curtis Ugbo, who claimed to be fighting on behalf of Edo youth, said he was informed that Captain Hosa Okunbo is one of the contractors with NPDC who hails from Edo State,” Osagie said.

He, therefore, called on Governor Godwin Obaseki to put in place measures against such menace capable of disturbing and scaring investors away from the state.

Osagie noted that there was no law in the country that prohibits a Benin or any Edo man for that matter from bidding for contracts with the NPDC or any other multinational company within or outside the state.
