A Socio-cultural group, Egbe Omo Ilaje has raised alarm over plan to disrupt the Saturday Governorship and House of Assembly Elections in the riverine area of Ondo state.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Lagos, the National President, Comrade Segun Jatuwase said “some unscrupulous politicians who are major players or contestants in the forthcoming Governorship and House of Assembly elections have perfected plan to import political thugs and militant groups from other parts of the state and beyond to come and cause mayhem and perpetrated unprecedented violence on our people for the main purpose of rigging elections and undermine the wishes of our people”

The group which secretariat is based in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government, noted that in the last President/National assembly elections, there were reported cases of ballot boxes snatching in some parts of the local government.

Jatuase said since the Saturday’s election involves indigenes of the area, which makes it “most serious and competitive” than the last elections, there was the need to call on security agents to be alive to their responsibilities.

He particularly called on the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspector General in charge of the state, the state police boss and Divisional Police Officer for Igbokoda to put extra security measures in place to thwart the plan to unleash violence on the people during the elections.

Jatuwase also spoke on the poverty situation in the area saying despite the setting up of the intervention agencies including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) and Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC), the local government as an oil producing area lacks pipe borne water, electricity, good roads both on land and water ways.
