To support indigent students and ensure more young people from poor household have access to quality education, the Coordinating Pastor, Heal the World Mission, Apostle Tola Olukilede, has earmarked N6,543,300 as scholarship for youth in the 2023/2024 academic session.
Olukilede in a chat with journalists in Lagos, said the scholarship is to assist students from basic to tertiary levels of education.
The philanthropist said the ministry in the last 26 years has impacted the lives of the less priviledged through various programmes and scholarships.
The minister, who is also the founder of the Tola Olukilede Ministries International, said in the last academic session, his ministry granted scholarships to 288 students to ensure they continue accessing quality education.
He said: “Our financial stewardship has been instrumental in driving change. During the last academic session, our partners pulled N1,915,500, in addition to N5,000,000 donated by the founder.
“So, we are excited to reveal that a proposed scholarship payment of N6,543,300 for the 2023/2024 session, will be used to elevate our impact even further.
“Right now we have 288 and some of them are graduating. So, we are going to add more students. We are looking at a minimum of 300 children to support.”
Highlighting how the money would be disbursed, the philanthropist said pupils in primary school will collect N25,000 yearly to buy books and other school materials.
He added that secondary school students will equally receive the same amount while the ministry will also pay for their West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to him, university students will receive N50,000 as well as assistance in payment of their projects.
The founder said their ongoing sponsorship programme continue to impact the lives of 250 children, empowering them through education.
He said the ministry has recorded outstanding successes in its interventions as 25 students successfully graduated from secondary school while 13 others have also graduated from higher institutions.
He added that many young people that they have assisted are now doing great and also giving back to society.
Olukilede, who stressed the need for more wealthy Nigerians to assist young people, said such efforts goes a long way in turning around the fortune of the country.
