•Don’t Turn Osun Into Political War Theatre, HUSIAC Tells APC, PDP
As counter accusations continue to trail the crisis in Osun State over the court ruling reinstating elected council officers, a group, the Coalition for Good Governance (CGG), has alleged that the carnage wassponsored, saying the police must do everything to apprehend those who troubled the peace of the state.

At abriefing, the Convener of CGG, Nelson Ekujumi, said the group has come out to speak on the issue because the political tension mounting in Osun was taking a new turn amid the counter claims.

Ekujumi said: “The allegation of planned assassination of the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, is a weighty one, which borders on treason. And as we are aware, treason is a capital punishment in Nigeria. Therefore, such a weighty allegation should be thoroughly investigated and ascertained if it is a wild goose chase by the Osun State government to escape and deflate the counter criminal allegations levelled against the state government by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

“On the other hand, the APC in Osun has accused the state government of sponsoring hoodlums to unleash terror on its members. According to the party, no fewer than six of its members lost their lives while many sustained different degrees of injuries.”

The group maintained that all the allegations and counter allegations of assassination and murders by both the state government and the APC are grave and capable of degenerating to anarchy if poorly managed.

“As keen observers of polity and political events in Osun State, we are of the firm belief that security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police and the Directorate of State Security, have not discharged their constitutional responsibilities dutifully and professionally.

“At this critical point, all efforts must be harnessed to engender peace, not endangering lives and properties of the citizens. For this reason, all Nigerians of goodwill both at home and in the diaspora must prevail on Governor Adeleke and Osun State Independent Electoral Commission to put on hold the controversial election slated for this Saturday.”

Similarly, a human rights group, Human Security and Intelligence Awareness Committee (HUSIAC), has condemned the political crisis going on in Osun State, warning the PDP and the APC not to turn the state into a political theatre of war.

Director, Human Security and Intelligence Awareness Committee (HUSIAC), Oyo State, Angel Folorunso, in a statement, expressed sadness with the alleged roles some security agents played in the mayhem in the state.

“The security system should not act on the basis of the body language of anyone, including the President. The police must protect the citizens and their property from critical threats at all times regardless of the political affiliation of the players,” he said.He also lamented the interference of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

Folorunso said: “He should not see himself as a court of law while discharging his duty.”He, therefore, called on Governor Adeleke to do all that is constitutional to maintain peace in the state.

“APC and PDP members and supporters should not turn Osun State to the theatre of political war as being covertly and recklessly pursued by some people in some quarters as the 2026 off-cycle governorship election draws near. Eligible voters should be allowed to cast their votes peacefully in all elections without violating the voters’ right to freedom to participate in choosing their own leaders while ensuring the dignity of the human person,” Folorunso said.
