Gunmen abduct 80-year-old grandmother in Bayelsa


As Police Inspector Kills Wife

Armed gunmen suspected to kidnappers on Thursday night abducted an 80-year-old grandmother in Agudama-Ekpetiama community, Yenagoa Council of Bayelsa State.

The gunmen were said to have stormed the residence of Mrs. Beauty Nimiyigha in a Prado jeep without registration number and kidnapped her at gunpoint.They later abandoned the jeep and escaped into the creek with their victim.

Confirming the incident, spokesman of the state Police Command, Asinim Butswat, said: “On 5/3/2020, about 2340 hours, five unknown gunmen went to Agudama Ekpetiama community, Yenagoa Council, in a Pathfinder Jeep without registration number, kidnapped one Mrs. Beauty Nimiyigha, 80, abandoned the jeep and escaped into the creek. 

“The Command has launched manhunt on the kidnappers and to rescue the victim. Investigation is ongoing.

Butswat also confirmed the arrest of a Police Inspector, Tuddy Warebayigha, who shot his wife dead in cold blood.

Though the motive for the killing was yet unknown, the Command said the women was shot by her husband while on her way to the farm in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Council of the state “over marital misunderstanding.” 

It added: “The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead. The suspect was arrested and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further Investigation. “He has been defaulted and if found culpable, will be dismissed and charge to court.”
