Suspected gunmen reportedly attacked a police station in Igueben, headquarters of Igueben Council Area of Edo state, carted away arms and ammunition.

They also killed a police inspector and a constable.

A source in the community said other policemen also sustained injuries during the attack, as the hoodlums who stormed the police station around 8:00 p.m. threw dynamite into the station before gaining access.

The source added that the armoury in the station was not spared. The bodies of those who were killed during the attack have been deposited at a nearby morgue.

Protesting against the incident, Igueben youths urged the Edo State Government to probe the attack, stressing, however, that it was not carried out by the indigenes of the community, but by external aggressors.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the authority would soon make a public statement.
