Gunmen kidnap Oyo council chairman
District head, four others abducted in Zamfara
The Caretaker Committee Chairman, Iganna Local Council Development Area of Oyo State, Comrade Jacob Olayiwola Adeleke, has been kidnapped.
Adeleke was abducted alongside his driver on Sunday evening on the Okeho-Ado Awaye road, on his way to Ibadan for a meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde scheduled for Monday morning.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident. The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, said men from the command had been combing the forests in the Oke-Ogun area to rescue the kidnapped council boss and his driver.
“Efforts are being intensified to get him released and arrest the culprits.”
It was gathered that a vigilante team from the area and neighbouring local government areas are also assisting the police in combing the forests in the area.
Also, the Chairman, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) in Oyo State, Mr Rotimi Olumo, when contacted, said: “I have called my people and they said they have started combing the forests in the area in search of him.”
MEANWHILE, the police in Zamfara State, on Sunday evening, announced the abduction of the District Head of Lingyado and four other residents of Maru Local Government Area of the state.
The police spokesperson in the state, Muhammad Shehu, in a statement, said the incident happened about 8:00 a.m. when suspected bandits attacked the community and took away the victims. He said joint police and military units stationed at Bindin responded to distress calls by residents when the gunmen invaded the community.
Shehu said the prompt response of the security personnel thwarted the plan of the bandits to kidnap as many people as possible.
