
Gunmen, yesterday, shot at close range and killed a 45-year-old forest guard in Kola-Rewire axis of Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Council of the state.

The victim, identified simply as Moshood and popularly known as “Omo Olopa”, was said to have fallen to the bullets of his assailants shortly after leaving a relaxation joint.
According to sources, Moshood was in the company of his friends at the relaxation centre in the Akure garage area of the town before the unfortunate incident occurred.
The news of his death left his family and friends in grief, while some were seen in groups discussing the incident.
Meanwhile, police officers have increased surveillance in the area to prevent any potential reprisals from individuals or groups seeking vengeance for the victim’s death.
A police source, who confirmed the incident, said investigation into the matter was ongoing.
He said immediately people in the area alerted the police, officers were mobilised to the scene and the corpse was evacuated to an undisclosed mortuary in the town.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in the state, Olufumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said she was yet to be briefed.
