A middle-aged businessman and owner of Falola Hotel, Oke Falola, was on Wednesday night assassinated by gunmen in Ilesha, Osun State.

Oke was reportedly killed beside his house around Fadahunsi Street, Imon area of Ilesha about 9pm.

It was gathered that the assailants, who were two, allegedly trailed their victim on a motorcycle before pumping bullets into Falola.

When contacted, spokesperson for the Osun police command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident. She said the Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie, had ordered an investigation into the matter.

A source in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the deceased, a father of six, was shot at a close range leaving him with slim chance of survival. The source said the perpetrators immediately fled the scene, throwing the neighbourhood into panic.

Commenting on the incident, a police officer who preferred anonymity, said the police got a distress call from a resident of Fadahunsi late in the night and they arrived at the scene to evacuate the body to a mortuary at the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.

An associate of the deceased identified as Isaac Hastrup in a Facebook post described the deceased as “a dogged fighter and a good ambassador of C&S Church Idasa Youth Forum.”

Sympathisers yesterday thronged to his residence to console his family.
