Gunmen kill several, incur 11 casualties in Zamfara

Ravaging gunmen have killed over 21 villagers and abducted scores in a Zamfara community.

The Guardian gathered that the assailants stormed the village with over 80 motorcycles and began shooting sporadicallyat women and stealing livestock in the process.

According to a resident, who pleaded anonymity, the attack occurred on Friday at around 9:00p.m.

He said the locals were still searching for missing persons, adding that funeral arrangements were underway for the deceased.

He called on the federal and state governments to come to their aid by deploying security personnel to the area to restore peace.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the State Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar,confirmed the incident, noting that the number of deaths was unspecified.

According to him, the command has deployed adequate personnel to the area, adding that normalcy has been restored.

He urged the communities to always cooperate with the police by providing accurate information on the movement of bandits for prompt response.

SIMILARLY, suspected armed bandits have killed five persons,including two police officers and three civilians, during an attack on Yarkatsinan Laka Community in Bungudu Local Council of the state.

In a statement by police spokesman, DSP Abubakar, the bandits, riding on over 50 motorcycles and carrying sophisticated weapons, invaded the community.

According to the statement, the Police Strike Unit responded swiftly and engaged the assailants in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of 11 bandits, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries.

The statement added that two police personnel and three civilians lost their lives during a gun duel.
DSP Abubakar added that normalcy has since been restored in the area.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, paid a condolence visit to commiserate with the families of the deceased and the entire community over the unfortunate incident.
