 Nigerian football stars were in action across Europe over the weekend, producing a mix of goals, assists and notable performances for their clubs as the 2025/26 season gathers momentum. Frank Onyeka, most especially, grabbed the headlines after helping Coventry City to secure an automatic promotion into the Premier League, while Akor Adams scored to help Sevilla steer clear of the relegation zone. Several other Super Eagles players featured prominently across England, Spain, Germany, France and beyond.

FRANCE

Moses Simon (Paris FC)

Moses Simon set up Jonathan Ikoné to score the opening goal in the fourth minute on Friday as Paris FC ended AS Monaco’s 10-match unbeaten run in the Ligue 1 courtesy of a 4-1 drubbing.

The assist was Simon’s first goal involvement in five months since scoring against Monaco in a 1-0 win for Paris FC in the reverse fixture on November 1, 2025.

ITALY

Maduka Okoye (Udinese)

Maduka Okoye kept his third straight clean sheet in the Italian Serie A as Udinese surprisingly travelled to San Siro to inflict a 3-0 defeat on title contenders, AC Milan on Saturday.

The Nigerian international goalkeeper has so far recorded eight clean sheets in the Serie A this season.

ENGLAND

Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham)

The trio of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze all featured on Saturday in Fulham’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Iwobi and Bassey were on from the start to the end of the game while Chukwueze came on to replace Harry Wilson in the 80th minute.

Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest)

Ola Aina featured for 89 minutes while Taiwo Awoniyi was not dressed for Sunday’s Premier League fixture at the City Ground which saw Nottingham Forest go three points clear of the relegation zone after playing out a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

Tolu Arokodare (Wolves)

Tolu Arokodare was a 71st-minute substitute for Yerson Mosquera on Friday when bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers moved closer to being relegated from the Premier League courtesy of a 4-0 drubbing in the hands of fellow strugglers, West Ham United.

Frank Onyeka (Coventry City)

Frank Onyeka came off for Victor Torp in the 81st minute of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship game which saw Coventry City secure an automatic promotion into the Premier League after playing out a 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Nigerian midfielder, currently on loan from Brentford will certainly play in the Premier League next season whether he decides to join Coventry on a permanent deal or return to his parent club.

Semi Ajayi (Hull City)

Semi Ajayi received a yellow card in the 72nd minute of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship encounter which saw 10-man Hull City suffer a 2-1 defeat against Sheffield United.

SPAIN

Umar Sadiq (Valencia)

Umar Sadiq has extended his goal drought in the Spanish La Liga to seven matches after firing blank on Saturday when Valencia suffered a 1-0 defeat to Elche.

Sadiq, who was yanked off for Hugo Duro in the 61st minute against Elche last scored a La Liga goal two months ago when Valencia travelled away to beat Levante 2-0.

Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla); Ademola Lookman (Atlético Madrid)

Akor Adams converted a 10th-minute penalty to help Sevilla steer clear of the relegation zone as his club defeated Ademola Lookman‘s Atlético Madrid 2-1 in a La Liga match on Saturday.

Adams has scored eight goals in 25 La Liga appearances for Sevilla this season. Fellow Nigerian international, Chidera Ejuke, was an unused substitute while Lookman came on to take the place of Rayane Belaid in the 71st minute.

GERMANY

Kevin Akpoguma (Hoffenheim)

Kevin Akpoguma saw Bundesliga action for the first time in two months on Friday when Hoffenheim drew 2-2 with Augsburg at the MMK Arena, as the Super Eagles defender came on as an 89th minute substitute for Vladimír Coufal.

Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen)

Nathan Tella came off for Ernest Poku in the 74th minute of Saturday’s German Bundesliga clash which saw Bayer Leverkusen boost their top four hopes by beating Borussia Dortmund 1-0 away at the Signal Iduna Park.
