Unknown gunmen have killed two police officers and four other people in an attack on a moving bus at Idema-Otuabagi road in Ogbia Local Council of Bayelsa State.

The gunmen allegedly came out from the bush at about 7:00 a.m. and opened fire on the bus, which was conveying the officers and others; and killed six of them, while others were left with gunshots wound.

A survivor, who said he was lucky to be alive, said the gunmen carted away the policemen’s riffles in the vehicle and escaped unchallenged into the bush.

Confirming the incident, the State Police spokesperson, Asnim Butswat, said the gunmen ambushed the officers serving at Rivers Command, while returning from the burial of a colleague, the late Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Gilbert Sampson, at Imago Kugbo in Rivers State.

He said the State’s Commissioner of Police, Ben Nebolisa Okolo, has ordered a manhunt for the gunmen who perpetrated the dastardly act, while an investigation is ongoing.

MEANWHILE, the state Police Command has warned miscreants and hoodlums, who may want to hijack the procession of the Ijaws during the Boro’s Day celebration to desist as policemen are strategically positioned to ensure a hitch-free event.

The Commissioner of Police, who felicitated with the Ijaws on the occasion, re-assured members of the public of adequate security and urged them to unite for peace and progress of the country.
