Gunmen nabbed for allegedly killing man, abducting, raping daughters

The Bauchi State police command yesterday paraded three suspects who specialise in kidnapping and raping their victims while in their custody. The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kamal Datti Abubakar, ‎told newsmen that the suspects were arrested at Burga village, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, Bauchi on July 10, 2018.

Abubakar said the suspects: Dalhart Mamman, aged 42 and Yakubu Adamu, 23, and one other kidnapper at large went to the home of one Ahmadu Adamu, 65 in Zungur village, Bauchi local government area and robbed him of his mobile phone, killed him and kidnapped his four daughters.

Abubakar added the four daughters were taken to Tashan Mai-Alewa mountain where they were repeatedly gang-rapped. The kidnappers also demanded N1 million ransom from the family before the women could be released.

The kidnapped women are Hajja Adama, 20; Aishatu Adamu, 18; Binta Adamu, 27; and Ramatu Idris, aged 13. According to the police, Alhaji Yusuf, 22, a wanted suspect was arrested at his hideout in Lau village, Toro Local Government Area in connection with other series of kidnap and rape cases.

According to Abubakar, a team of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Bauchi arrested the suspects. “One of the suspect confessed that sometimes in 2017, he and five others now at large conspired and kidnapped one Alhaji Kalardi of Yumbu Village Warji LGA and collected N100,000 from his family members before his release.”

He also told newsmen that another suspects, Adamu Mohammed Wakisa and Usman Mohammed Kabir were arrested at Medina quarters for killing their friend, both armed with cutlass and knife. The suspects were said to have conspired with four other suspects; identified as Iyali Danfulani, Ibrahim Tarazi, Bafare Yau and S.K. Small to stab Rufai Abubakar and cart away his mobile phone (TechnoK7) worth N35,000.

Two other suspects were paraded for forgery and possession of letterheads belonging to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and certificates of the state-owned polytechnic, Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi. The suspects are Abdullahi Ibrahim, 30 of Birshi Gandu in Bauchi LGA and Aliyu Auwal who volunteered that “I have issued 12,000 of such letters at the cost of N12,000 each to those seeking financial assistance from some big men.”

Abdullahi, while asked what led to his action, said: “The situation in the country is about who you know. So I prepare the fake letters to those who have rich men that will help them, while I use the money to attend to my financial needs. My right leg has been cut off after an injury I sustained last year.”
