Ofume died at the Intensive Care Unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba on Sunday night, following pellets of bullets on his head.

Owner of the haulage company, Mr. Vincent Ugwu, who confirmed the death of Ofume to The Guardian, yesterday, said all efforts to revive him failed.

“Ofume gave up the ghost yesterday night at about 9:00p.m., despite all efforts to get him back to his feet. It is a painful one for us that he had to die this way,” Ugwu said.

Recall that Ofume left Asaba for Enugu on Monday, October 2, at about 2:00a.m. to deliver copies of The Guardian Newspapers meant for Awka, Nnewi, Enugu and Abakaliki.

He was, however, intercepted by gunmen at Dunukofia, who shot severally at his distribution vehicle.

He was said to have caught several pellets of bullets on his head, while attempting to escape his attackers and was later rescued by a team of policemen on patrol and taken to a private hospital.
