Sanwo-Olu implores leaders to guide youths toward responsible citizenship
AS Christians and Muslims globally commenced the yearly Lent and Ramadan fasting respectively, the Emeritus Archbishop of Enugu, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Revd. Emmanuel Chukwuma has called on Christians and Muslims to use the period of the Lenten season and Ramadan fasting to pray seriously for God’s intervention and peace in the country, especially as politicians begin to campaign for the 2027 general election.
The cleric also urged the two bodies to repent of their sins and seek the face of God.
The Archbishop said that Nigerians should love one another and stop corruption, terrorism, and religious bigotry.
He equally enjoined politicians to think more about what will improve the life of the electorate and desist from selfish desires and unnecessary political ambition with greediness.
He, however, described 2027 as disastrous because of what he tagged as the selfishness of Nigerian politicians.
“We need to pray seriously during this Lenten and Ramadan fasting season,” Chukwuma said.
MEANWHILE, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has celebrated with Christians and Muslims on the commencement of this year’s Lenten and Ramadan fasting season.
Sanwo-Olu, in a statement yesterday, urged them to use the fasting period to seek the face of God in prayers.
The governor enjoined Nigerians and Lagos residents in particular to be more steadfast in prayers to God against many untoward occurrences in the country and seek the advancement of our shared peace and prosperity.
Similarly, Sanwo-Olu, who spoke during a pre-Ramadan prayer on Tuesday, represented by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, said that his administration remains committed to policies and programmes that uplift the vulnerable, support families, create opportunities for the youths, and ensure peace in our communities, strengthen interfaith harmony, and preserve the spirit of coexistence that defines Lagos.
