Nigeria gets Swaziland in 2018 World Cup qualifier

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has concluded arrangements to fly the home-based Super Eagles to Ouagadougou, venue of the team’s second leg African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Burkina Faso this weekend.

A source at the federation told The Guardian that 18 out the 23 players in the team’s Port Harcourt camp will make the trip to the West African country.

Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso 2-0, courtesy of goals by Bature Yaro and Gbolahan Salami.

The source disclosed that the coaches will meet after tomorrow’s training session to decide the players for the trip, adding that the dropped players will remain in camp until after the game.

“Initially, the plan was to release the players to their teams for the midweek GLO League games, but that has been cancelled because it is no longer feasible due to the latest development,” the source said.

He disclosed that Coach Sunday Oliseh, who joined the team on the eve of the first leg in Port Harcourt, will be in full control of the preparations for the Ouagadougou game.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have been drawn against Swaziland in the last qualifying round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Isihlangu defeated Djibouti 2-1 in Lobamba on Saturday to conclude an 8-1 aggregate triumph over the East Africans and earn the right to face five-time World Cup finalists Nigeria twice during the month of November.

Swaziland won the first leg in Djibouti 6-0 and were never threatened at the Somhlolo Stadium in the delayed return leg.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles drew bye in the first round and will fly into Lobamba in the first week of November for the first leg, buoyed by a 3-0 victory over rivals Cameroun in a friendly in Belgium a week ago.
