Already, the protest that started peacefully on major streets had been hijacked by hoodlums to loot public property. One Ismail Lawal Musa, a resident of Hotoro quarters, was said to have been hit by a stray bullet.

Police spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, has promised to give details, Besides, the irate youths set ablaze a multi-billion Naira digital centre of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) despite the presence of security around the Audu Bako Secretariat, where the centre was located.

Police have, however, confirmed arrest of 13 suspected looters and recovery of food items and house fittings.  Governor Abba Yusuf had, on Wednesday, alleged plan by politicians to take advantage of the protest to unleash violence in the state.

Although, he was not specific on the identities of the masterminds, the governor insisted the security operatives have been notified for necessary action.  A security source revealed that Governor Yusuf is holding an intelligence meeting with heads of security agencies in the state to fashion out measures to curtail the rising tension.

According to the credible source, curfew may be imposed as alternative option.

ALSO, tear gas canisters were used to dispersed the angry youths, who occupied major roads as early as 8:00 a.m. and matched from Zoo Road down to state road and sooner stationed at Government House where they demanded to see Governor Yusuf.

Trouble ensued when they set fire after being denied access by security operatives.  Provoked by their audacity, an eyewitness told our correspondent that security operatives immediately discharge teargas and shot into the air to disperse them.

One of the protesters, who identified himself as Abu Aminu, accused the security agents of dispersing their ‘peaceful protest’ with teargas.  Efforts to reach the police spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, for comments were futile.
