Hoodlums cut off 19-year-old boy’s ear during celebration rally
Hoodlums in Bauchi, the Bauchi State capital, went on rampage during a political rally, leaving several innocent residents injured, while one ear of 19-year-boy Muhammad Harisu was cut off during a rally organised by supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) to celebrate their victory in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Harisu said he was outside his home to witness the rally when the suspected thugs went on rampage and stabbed anybody in their way, even without obstructing them. He narrated: “Four of the hoodlums approached me and brought out machete and stabbed different parts of my body, including my left ear.
“I tried to escape, but all to no avail, as they had already injured me. I rushed to a nearby chemist, where the wounds were covered with bandage to stop the bleeding.
“I was rushed to Tashan Babiye Hospital by the Police, where the wounded ear was further treated. Though I can hear with that ear, but not clearly and I feel severe pain.”
Meanwhile, the state Police Command spokesperson, Kamal Datti Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying: “About 4pm on that day, the Command received a report that while some members of the public were celebrating the victory of their political party in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections in Bauchi metropolis, some group of youths, suspected to be ‘Sara Suka’ thugs, went on rampage, attacking people with machetes and sticks.”
He said the Command mobilised its operatives to the affected areas and curtailed the situation, adding, he however, that during the incident, three innocent residents were confirmed injured and were taken to the hospital by the Police for treatment and later discharged. He added that the case was under investigation and so far, four suspects had been arrested in connection with case.
