The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) have agreed to dismantle all police checkpoints on the Delta side of the Old Niger Bridge from December 18 December 2024 to January 10, 2025.

FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ogungbemide said the agreement was reached following a critical session by the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, and the Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam and his counterpart in Delta State, CO BS Oluwafemi.

According to Ogungbemide, the move is another proactive approach towards extenuating traffic gridlock on the two Niger bridges linking Onitsha and Asaba major corridor, by joining forces with the Anambra and Delta States Commands of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has applauded the Sector Commander for the synergy, stating that the collaboration will strengthen the resolve of the Corps towards achieving safety and ease of movement for all road users on the Niger bridges during the festive period.

He called on the motoring public to give adequate cooperation to road traffic management personnel and comply with all traffic rules and regulations.
