HYPREP to commission two water schemes in Ogoni by February
The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has announced plans to commission two additional water schemes in Ogoni, Rivers State, by February 2025.
The development is part of HYPREP’s ongoing efforts to provide potable water to impacted communities in Ogoni.
According to the Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, on Wednesday, the two water schemes, located in Beeri and Bunu in Khana and Tai Local Government Areas, respectively, are nearing completion.
He noted that the commissioning of these schemes will bring the total number of water projects completed by HYPREP to 16, providing clean drinking water to thousands of people in Ogoni.
Zabbey made this announcement during a recent visit to the water facilities and shoreline remediation sites in K-Dere, Gokana Local Government Area.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, attributing it to the determination and commitment of community workers.
The Project Coordinator emphasised that HYPREP’s mandate is to provide potable water to impacted communities in Ogoni, and the completion of these two water schemes is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
He also noted that HYPREP’s projects, including public health interventions, remediation, and livelihood initiatives, will significantly improve the quality of life for the Ogoni people.
