The bridge collapsed as a result of heavy downpour on Sunday. When The Guardian, visited the scene, angry and distressed members of the community, including motorists, commercial motorcyclists and other road users recounted their ordeals and pains since the collapse of the bridge.
Stranded commuters standing on either side of the collapsed bridge, called on the state government to come to their rescue.
They expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of the disaster, lamenting that there was no alternative road to link the communities in the area. According to them, they have been going through hell since the bridge collapsed as government is not showing the seriousness to address the plights of citizens living in the area.
One of the affected residents, Taiwo Akinpelu, lamented that the collapsed bridge contract should have been awarded to a qualified firm. A trader, Bimpe Adesola, said the situation has affected their sales and day-to-day business, since she now pays more than double on transportation.
She called on Governor Seyi Makinde to re-award the bridge contract to a more competent contractor, since the bridge was intended to make life bearable for motorists.
