The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), yesterday, held a commendation service in Lagos to honour its past President and former Anambra State Commissioner for Economic and Finance Matters, late Dr. Ike Nwokolo, who died at 88.
Speaking at the service, ICAN President, Davidson Alaribe, said the late Nwokolo was a man of integrity who contributed in so many ways to the development of the institute and accountancy profession in the country.
Alaribe noted that under Nwokolo’s visionary leadership, ICAN achieved several landmark milestones, including the revised and relaunched Code of Ethics, reinforcing the profession’s commitment to integrity and accountability.
According to him, Nwokolo spearheaded the completion and commissioning of the Abuja office complex, now proudly known as Akintola Williams House, a lasting monument to ICAN’s national presence and institutional legacy.
He said that as former Anambra State Commissioner for Economic and Finance Matters, Nwokolo’s leadership blended fiscal discipline with human-centred governance.
Alaribe urged accountants to honour Nwokolo by holding fast to the standards he upheld and the path he cleared by building institutions that are not only efficient but also ethical.
He said: “Nwokolo embodied what ICAN stands for — integrity, excellence, service, and legacy.
“To his beloved family, we say you shared him with a nation, and we are grateful. To the accountancy profession, we say we are better because he lived. To Nigeria, we say a patriot has passed, but his principles live on.”
