The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that Muibi Folawiyo, Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), is under investigation over allegations of financial misappropriation and abuse of office.
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare said on Wednesday that Folawiyo was arrested at the council secretariat on 42 Broad Street, Lagos, after failing to honour multiple invitations by the commission.
“He was arrested by a team from the ICPC Headquarters for the aforementioned reasons but has since been granted administrative bail,” Bakare said. “He is expected to report back today as the investigation continues.”
According to the commission, Folawiyo is being investigated for alleged theft of public funds, diversion of council resources for personal use, and bypassing official procurement procedures.
The arrest comes amid broader efforts by the anti-graft agency to strengthen oversight at the local government level, where concerns over financial transparency and accountability have persisted.
