• Urges security beef up around INEC offices
As the Kogi State governorship contest shifts to the tribunal, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has called on the general public to hold the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state responsible, should anything untoward happens to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Lokoja.

The APC campaign council was reacting to the alarm raised by the SDP campaign spokesperson, Isaiah Ijele, that the APC was trying to burn down the INEC office, to conceal evidence ahead of the inspection of materials that were used for the election by the governorship election tribunal.

APC said it was convinced that the false alarm raised by the SDP was to cover its sinister motive of razing the electoral umpire’s office and turning around to blame it on APC.

Director of Media and Publicity/Spokesperson for the Council, Kingsley Fanwo, stated: “Their clandestine move to cover up their propaganda-fuelled claims about the election is well documented. So, we call on security agencies to fortify INEC offices across the state.

“No amount of propaganda can help their baseless, senseless and unsubstantiated claims after their scorecard at the poll was at complete variance with their boastful pre-election posture. They have resorted to attacking INEC and everyone, except themselves. Such is the sorry state of a party and its candidate who lacks the political pedigree to challenge the politically-rooted APC in Kogi.”

SDP had, in a statement on Sunday, claimed that it uncovered plans to burn down the INEC office in Kogi.

The Director-General (DG), New Media, Muri Sam Campaign Council, Isaiah Ijele, stated: “It has come to our notice through the grapevine that there is urgent need for security beef-up around the Kogi INEC office to avert the sinister plot to burn down the office by mandate bandits.”
