Igbo group urges Buhari to balance appointments
A GROUP, Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria (NCSN), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure equity across the nation in his political appointments.
In a statement yesterday, NCSN President, Udoka Udeogaranya, wished the Buhari administration well but regretted that of the nine appointments made so far by his presidency, “no Igbo made the list.”
Noting that the development does not speak well of his government, Udeogaranya added: “In our own calculation, Ndigbo remains the largest ethnic group in Nigeria and the most industrious people in Africa, and can help any government succeed if given a level playing field.
“He needs to toe the line of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who hailed from the South-South but gave many appointments to the North West, where President Buhari is from, and concentrated his projects in the north. This same nationalistic conduct is expected of anyone that must be regarded as a true president.”
