Ladoja asks Mogajis, Baales to take security seriously
Prominent Christian leaders have called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency over the worsening socio-economic and security conditions in the country, warning that hardship, insecurity and governance challenges now require urgent and decisive national intervention.
They spoke, yesterday, during a briefing, tagged: ‘State of the Nation: Easter Peter with Church Fathers’, hosted by Pastor Yomi Kasali, where they expressed deep concern over rising poverty, violence, failing infrastructure and what they described as weakening democratic institutions, insisting that the current situation had reached a critical stage demanding extraordinary measures.
Specifically, former President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Felix Omobude, said national renewal must be anchored on truth, justice and responsible leadership, stressing that faith leaders could not remain silent amid growing hardship in the country.
General Overseer of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo, described the country’s economic situation as dire, warning that rising living costs had pushed many citizens into extreme hardship despite Nigeria’s vast natural endowments.
Okonkwo therefore called for urgent, decisive action, describing the economic situation as an emergency requiring immediate attention.
Founder of Word of Life Bible Church, Ayo Oritsejafor, expressed concern about Nigeria’s electoral culture, saying that politics had become excessively monetised and detached from service to the people.
The PFN National Vice-President for the North Central Zone, Isa El-Buba, highlighted the worsening security crisis, particularly in northern Nigeria, citing the growing number of internally displaced persons and communities destroyed by violence.
Relatedly, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has urged community leaders to take the security of their communities very seriously.
The monarch stated this, yesterday, during the installation of Mogajis and Baales at his Palace in Oja’ba, Ibadan.
A statement signed by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, says this is the first installation of Mogajis and Baales since Olubadan’s coronation last September 26, 2025.
According to Oba Ladoja: “As family compound and community heads at Ibadan city and Ibadan less city areas, I am sure you are aware that one of the greatest challenges facing Nigeria is the issue of security. As grassroots leaders, you need to be vigilant about what is happening in your environment. If it were for glamour alone, this installation exercise would not have been necessary. But it is well because of the responsibility attached to it that we are here to formalise your appointment as Mogajis and Baales.”
The Olubadan urged them to sensitise youths on the need to join the security agencies during recruitment.
