In a move to boost morale and promote excellence within the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, decorated Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aliyu Shaba and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sentome Obi, winners of the Police Officer of the Year Award for 2023 and 2024, respectively, with their new ranks.
The brief but significant ceremony was held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the recognition of the two officers reflects the Force’s continued commitment to rewarding professionalism, dedication, and exemplary service.
He reiterated that the Nigeria Police will remain steadfast in celebrating officers who distinguish themselves in the line of duty.
He further reaffirmed the standing directive of the Force Management that any officer who wins the Police Officer of the Year Award, receives the IGP Commendation, or secures a category award in two consecutive years, will be recommended to the Police Service Commission for accelerated promotion.
Encouraging officers across all commands and formations, the IGP said, “The doors of honour and recognition are wide open, but they can only be accessed through hard work, discipline, and excellence.”
In a related development, the IGP received a high-level delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), led by its Director-General, Ms. Omolola B. Oluworaran, and the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr. Kolade Morakinyo, at the Force Headquarters.
The meeting featured an interactive session with senior officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above, focusing on retirement-related concerns of both serving and retired personnel.
IGP Egbetokun expressed optimism that the ongoing collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, PenCom, and NPF Pensions would result in significant improvements in the post-service welfare of police retirees.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the welfare of all officers, the IGP pledged to continue promoting professionalism, service excellence, adherence to the rule of law, and a people-oriented policing model.
