Stakeholders, political leaders, and community influencers have said that despite its growing population and strategic importance as a residential hub, Ikorodu Division remains underrepresented in key political structures, highlighting the structural imbalances in representation plaguing its progress.

They stated this during the I-Heroes yearly general meeting (AGM) and public discussion, themed: “Amplify: Ikorodu Division’s Stake in Lagos Politics – Amplifying Our Strengths, Weaknesses and Potentials and Sorting the Path of Glory,” where discussants echoed the importance of collective responsibility, unity, and effective power management, stressing that collaboration among political actors remains key to achieving lasting progress in the division.

In the keynote lecture, S.O.K. Shillings, who traced the historical and political evolution of Lagos State, highlighting the structural imbalances in representation affecting the division, noted that despite its growing population and strategic importance as a residential hub, Ikorodu remains underrepresented in key political structures.

Also in his address, President of I-Heroes, Majolagbe Olanshile, highlighted pressing challenges facing the division, including insecurity, infrastructural deficits, and youth unemployment.

He called for improved collaboration among security agencies to tackle cult-related violence and land grabbing.

He also urged government authorities to prioritise critical road infrastructure, particularly the Bola Tinubu Road linking Igbe Laara in Igbogbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), which has being in deplorable condition.

Olanshile also stressed the urgent need for youth empowerment, noting that rising unemployment has contributed to social vices. He called on political leaders and institutions to create sustainable opportunities that will engage young people productively.

MEANWHILE, traditional rulers in Badagry Division have advocated the Lagos State governorship seat to be zoned to the area in 2027, citing justice, equity, and fairness.

The traditional rulers, led by Aholu Olalekan Sejiro, the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, made the call yesterday during a media briefing in Badagry while declaring support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

He said the briefing aimed to address a “longstanding imbalance in Lagos State’s political leadership structure.”
