Ikpeazu pledges protection for children
Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has congratulated Nigerian children, who he said are blessings to their families, pledging that his administration would sustain its policies towards their protection against all forms of abuses like child labour, child trafficking, physical abuse and mutilation.
Speaking to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration in Umuahia, the state capital, he counseled children to prepare and equip themselves properly to be able to take hold of the future as leaders of the next generation, saying that they were already being so equipped educationally in the schools.
He pointed out that the future of the world is in the hand of children, urging parents and educational institutions not to fail in their responsibility to positively mentor children.
He reaffirmed his commitment towards ensuring a secured future for Abia children, which he said is demonstrated in the new educational programme directed at revamping the school system and creating a conducive learning environment.
The governor, however, advised children in the state to shun all forms of vices and negative influences, and focus their energy towards becoming great ambassadors of the state and illustrious sons and daughters of their community.
