I’m alive, says mob attack victim in Kaduna
El-Rufai Assists Family
The victim of a Muslim mob attack in Kaduna, Francis Emmanuel Olokpo, yesterday debunked rumours of his death, as several people besieged Saint Gerald Hospital, where he is presently recuperating.
Olokpo was allegedly stabbed by a mob believed to be Muslim youths in Kakuri area when he was seen taking his meal as the Ramadan fasting was being observed.
Besides, journalists had rushed to hospital only to discover that Olokpo was alive and recuperating from the deep cuts inflicted on him by the alleged gang of six said to be enforcing fasting in Kakuri, a densely-populated suburb of Kaduna.
The victim said: “I am alive and I am getting better. Nobody should worry over me. I am being taken care of very well and by the grace of Christ, I shall leave here very soon.”
However, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of St. Gerald Hospital, Sunday Ali, said his phone had been inundated by calls since morning by all kinds of persons wanting to find out if Olokpo was dead.
He said: “I think tension is brewing in the town. I want to call on the Police to as a matter of urgency take serious measure and arrest the lawlessness in Kakuri.
“This hospital has seen enough of victims of violence and government is still owing us some good money from treating citizens under its bill.”
Meanwhile, the state government yesterday directed spokesman of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Samuel Aruwan, to visit the victim and present him with undisclosed token for his immediate family needs, being the breadwinner of the family.
