Imo assembly appeals ruling on suspended lawmakers

Imo State House of Assembly has appealed the judgement of an Owerri High Court three days ago ordering that five suspended members of the house be restored and paid their entitlements.

Uche Oguike, Donatus Onuigwe, Nkenna Nzeruo, Israel Nnataraonye and Chiji Collins were suspended in July for alleged misconducts.

The speaker, Acho Ihim, stated yesterday in Owerri: “The Imo State House of Assembly has filed and served a notice of appeal against the judgement of Owerri High Court on suspension of five of its members.

“The house also filed a stay of execution of the same judgement of Monday, November 5, 2018 nullifying the suspension order of the members.”

According to the statement signed by his chief press secretary, Marcel Ekwezuo, the speaker pointed out that the house was not satisfied with the judgement, hence the appeal.

“In keeping with Imo State House of Assembly’s disposition to the rule of law, the house has no better choice than to appeal against the said judgement,” he added, enjoining the house to remain calm as appropriate steps had been taken.
