Imo CP faults attack on NOUN office, Ibezim’s home, launches investigation
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the suspected hoodlums’ attack on the office of the National Open University (NOUN) at Ezeoke Nsu, Ehime Mbano Local Council, on Monday night.
The hoodlums also set fire to parts of the country home of the former senator for Imo North, Frank Ibezim. The incident occurred a few days after the institution was reportedly launched to provide training for vulnerable and displaced people from across the country.
Describing the incident as senseless and unwarranted, CP Danjuma said it reflects a disturbing trend of violence that undermines the safety and security of communities.
He said, “The Command stands firmly against such acts and will take all necessary measures, in synergy with other security agencies, to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are dedicated to maintaining peace and order.” He urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement efforts to safeguard their communities.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, relayed the CP’s concerns in a statement yesterday. “In response to this attack, CP Danjuma has promptly deployed the Command’s Tactical Unit to identify and apprehend those responsible for this act of arson,” he said.
“Additionally, the Commissioner has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident.”
The statement added: “The Commissioner of Police emphasises that no individual involved in this attack will escape the full legal consequences, as the police are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served.”
