The Imo State Police Command has debunked a report in social media that unknown gunmen, on Friday, killed six persons, while 22 motorcycles were burnt, when they stormed Neokeisima-Umuologho Junction in Obowo Local Council of Imo State, shooting sporadically.

The incident occurred at a popular Suya spot in that vicinity.

The command’s spokesperson, Michael Abattam, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), yesterday, said three persons lost their lives and no motorcycle was burnt.

He urged the public to discountenance the report.

Abattam said: “It is confirmed three persons were shot dead at Umuologho junction.”

He said the victims were killed before security operatives arrived at the scene and wondered where social media reporters got their figure.

He said: “People write to mislead the public. Where were the motorcycles burnt? They should let us know. These gunmen just came out, were shot sporadically and left three persons dead. Even before the security operatives came there, they had run away. It seems they just wanted to create a scene…

“We are investigating. The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Hussaini has already directed a detailed investigation into it…”
