Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Martin Ejiogu, and six other members of the State Working Committee (SWC) have dumped the party.
They are Secretary, Nze Ray Emeana; Treasurer, Josiah Eze; Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor; Woman Leader, Maria Mbakwe; Vice Chairman, Orlu Zone, Chibuisi Obido and Youth Leader, Greg Nwadike.
In a press briefing, held at the party’s secretariat, Owerri, yesterday, they disclosed that their decision followed alleged ill-treatment meted on them by one of the top names in the party.
Speaking, the Publicity Secretary, Opurozor, said: “We announce to you that the PDP in Imo State has now been damaged beyond redemption. It is heartbreaking that some of us in the SWC have escaped assassination attempts. All of us in SWC are reputable and we have made our marks in various areas of endeavour.
“Last Saturday, armed thugs invaded the party secretariat and unleashed violence on us. They vandalised our building, smashed glasses, beat our security men, broke into offices and looted everything they could find.
The attack was the most brazen and audacious attempt to eliminate us. There is clear danger. There is fire on the mountain. We must now run to stay alive.”
