The Imo State Police Command has said that a three -man armed robbery gang was really arrested and arms and ammunition were recovered by a crack team of officers dispatched by the state Police Commissioner, Taiwo Lakanu. In a statement issued Thursday evening in Owerri, and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Andrew Enwerem, it states that the suspects had snatched a Toyota Avalon car from their victim, among others before they were apprehended.

It reads in part, “In the cause of renewed onslaught and adoption of new strategies to stem the tide of crime and criminality in Imo State, luck has run against a three-man armed robbery syndicate operating with a Blue coloured Volks wagon Passat vehicle who specialize in robbing petrol stations and snatching cars in Ahiazu Mbaise/Obowo/Etiti environs of the State.

On 6/7/2016, a victim from Ahiazu Mbaise was robbed at gunpoint of his Toyota Avalon Ash colour saloon car with Reg. No. FJ-609-KRD at MM Maris Petrol Station at Aguneze in Ahiazu Mbaise L.G.A. Operatives of the Command quickly swung into action and covered all exit routes.

Three of the suspects were apprehended with the stolen vehicle and arrested at Obowo Malaysia market en route Umuahia Abia State. The suspects are: Chibuike Oko, male, 27 years from Ngodo Afikpo North L.G.A Ebonyi State; Uchenna Kalu, male, 32 years from Ihungwu Amankelu Igbere Bende L.G.A of Abia State and Ifeanyi Emenike, male, 28 years, of Umuobutu Umuahia South L.G.A of Abia State. He continued: “The Suspects have been identified by the owner of the stolen vehicle and the suspects have confessed to the crime. Items recovered from the suspects include the sum of N282, 000 allegedly stolen from their victims and ammunition.’
