Imo State secretariat gets electricity, after seven years of darkness
After seven years of working without public power supply, Imo State civil servants, at the weekend, had cause to smile, as power was restored at the state secretariat on Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.
The State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, while campaigning a few months ago, promised to restore power, which had been disconnected by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), over non-payment of accumulated bills, running into millions of naira.
Ihedioha, who had opened talks with the EEDC on ways to clear the debt, directed the state-owned Imo Power and Rural Electricity Agency (I- POREA), headed by its Director General, Dr. Albert Okorogu, to restore power at the secretariat without delay.
