The recently inaugurated campaign team of the re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed confidence that the achievements of the candidate of Accord Party for the August 15 governorship election would pave way for his second tenure.
The team tagged: “The Imole Campaign Council”, declared this after its Media Committee officially opened Imole Media Centre in Osogbo, meant for dissemination of the achievements of Adeleke and also informing the citizens of Osun on Adeleke’s reloaded agenda for his re-election bid.
Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Lere Oyewumi, who is the Director-General of the Campaign Council, while addressing journalists at the Media Centre Opening ceremony, said Adeleke’s giant strides have made him loved by the people of the State, noting that majority of the populace have assured the governor of victory.
He said the governor has recorded significant achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and digital economy within three and a half years in office.
Top of Adeleke’s achievements in the last three years, according to Oyewumi, is the prioritisation of the welfare of the people of Osun, especially as it relates to workers’ welfare and growth.
Another selling point of the governor, the Senator mentioned is the litany of infrastructural projects littered across Osun.
Oyewumi also emphasised that Adeleke has successfully corrected the mistakes of immediate past administration of Gboyega Oyetola by reducing the State’s domestic debt from N148 billion in 2022 to N83.32 billion in the first quarter of 2025. In addition, he disclosed that the current government of Adeleke also increased the state’s Internally Generated Revenue by 139 per cent.
According to him, the state’s external debt profile also dropped from $91.78 million in 2022 to $75.14 million under the current administration.
“It is important to remind the electorate of the terrible mess which the immediate past administration, on which the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, served as Commissioner of Finance, left behind,” he said.
“We are happy to report that our government has reduced the domestic debt profile of the state from N148 billion in December 2022 to N83.32 billion by the first quarter of 2025 and external debt from $91.78 million in 2022 to $75.14 million,” he added.
The campaign council director-general also stated that the state’s internally generated revenue rose from N24.47 billion in 2022 to N58.7 billion in 2025 following reforms introduced by the Adeleke administration.
Oyewumi said the government had also cleared 18 months out of the 30 months of half-salary arrears inherited from the previous administration and fully paid the 28-month contributory pension arrears owed to retirees.
“We have cleared 18 months out of the 30 months of inherited half-salary liabilities from the past APC government. Our government has also cleared in full the 28-month contributory pension arrears owed to retirees,” he stated.
Speaking on infrastructure projects executed by the administration, Oyewumi said the Adeleke government constructed the first flyover in Ile-Ife and dual carriageways in Ilesa, Ila-Orangun, Ede and Iwo, alongside over 300 kilometres of urban and rural roads across the state.
“The administration is proud to speak about the first-ever flyover in Ile-Ife, not merely as a beautiful structure, but as a thoughtfully conceived economic infrastructure designed to improve mobility, commerce and urban development,” he said.
According to him, the Okefia and Lameco flyovers in Osogbo have become symbols of modern urban planning in the state.
Speaking on education, Oyewumi said Osun State moved from the 33rd position in the NECO ranking in 2022 to seventh position in both 2024 and 2025 due to reforms introduced by the administration.
He also said the government distributed 440,000 cocoa seedlings, 80,000 oil palm seedlings and 60,000 cashew seedlings to farmers, while 31 tractors had been deployed to cultivate over 5,100 acres of farmland under its agricultural initiatives.
On youth development, the campaign council boss said the government recruited teachers and youths into the Imole Youth Corps and Osun Amotekun Corps to tackle unemployment.
Oyewumi further noted that the Adeleke administration introduced Osun State’s first ICT policy and domesticated the Nigerian Startup Act to position the state as a technology and innovation hub.
The campaign council director-general, however, accused the All Progressives Congress of engaging in “negative politics” ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
He alleged that a member of the Accord political family, Kolade Eluyera, was killed in Ikire by individuals linked to the APC, calling on security agencies to ensure justice.
“It is deeply disturbing and condemnable that a committed member of the Accord family, Kolade Eluyera, was gruesomely murdered by agents of the opposition APC, yet no decisive action has been taken,” he alleged.
Oyewumi urged security agencies to remain neutral and professional throughout the election period, warning against the selective enforcement of the law.
“No political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen of Osun State,” he said.
He added that the Imole Campaign Council would focus on promoting the achievements of the Adeleke administration and mobilising support for the governor’s re-election bid under what he described as the “Imole 2.0” agenda ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Meanwhile, the Council has warned opposition parties against the subversion of people’s will through the poll, saying that any attempt to scuttle the process would be resisted.
