The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) on Monday presented 35 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.
The buses were handed over by the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, and received by the Chief Executive Officer of Pi-CNG, Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi.
The event marks a collaboration between the national oil company and the federal government initiative aimed at expanding the use of cleaner energy in Nigeria’s transport sector.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ojulari said the donation is part of NNPC Ltd.’s broader commitment to promoting gas utilisation as an alternative to traditional fuels. He noted that the buses will support the national objective of improving energy affordability and reducing dependence on petroleum-based fuels.
In his remarks, Oluwagbemi said the buses would be deployed to enhance the implementation of Pi-CNG’s mandate to provide cleaner and more cost-effective transport solutions across the country.
The handover is part of ongoing efforts to drive Nigeria’s energy transition and achieve long-term environmental and economic sustainability through the use of CNG in mass transit.
