The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State said it has registered a total of 51, 209 voters in 27 councils across the state.Speaking, yesterday, during the Development Dynamics (DD), organised by Strengthening Citizens Engagement in Electoral Process (SCEEP), at a roundtable with electoral stakeholders in Owerri, the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Francis Chukwuemeka Ezeonu, said out of the number, 39, 803 voters registered last quarter, which ended in July, 23,158 are male, while 16, 645 are females, representing 58 per cent and 42 per cent respectively.

He explained that as at Tuesday, a total of 11,406 (6,771 males and 4,1735 females) voters registered, in the second phase, which commenced in August, bringing it to a total of 59,209 voters.

He expressed dissatisfaction at the turnout, assuring that during the Voter Education Publicity Unit of the commission would step up publicity and awareness work within the limits of the resources available to it.
