IPAC urges ADP to wade into Kano guber candidacy dispute
Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), Kano State chapter, has urged the Action Democratic Party (ADP) to urgently resolve the dispute between its gubernatorial candidate, Shaaban Sharada, and his running mate, Nasiru Koguna.
This was contained in a statement signed by 14 of the 18 registered political parties and made available to The Guardian in Kano, yesterday.
IPAC described the attitude of ADP in not fulfilling the promises made to Koguna, who was persuaded to withdraw his candidature, as “unscrupulous.”
According to the statement, Koguna participated and won a primary election through unanimous endorsement by the 748 eligible delegates and his name was forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was published but later substituted with that of Sharada.
It reads: “He was asked to step down for Sharada, a House of Representatives member, to become the ADP gubernatorial candidate in Kano. The suggestion of ADP National Chairman, Yabagi Sani, to Koguna is with some promises to be honoured by the party.
“Based on the promises to Koguna, he consented in good faith to pave the way as requested by the party’s national chairman to consolidate the party in Kano.”
After Koguna gave his consent, IPAC added, that none of the promises or agreements had been kept or fulfilled.
“That left him with no option than to take legal action against the party and its national leadership to redeem his candidature.”
“Based on the above rigmarole, IPAC loudly condemned the attitude of Kano ADP and the national chairman for not fulfilling the promises they made to Nasiru Koguna,” IPAC stated.
