Issues, not cheap sentiments will determine Kwara polls, says minister
• Buhari’s govt lacks integrity, Wike declares
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said issues and not cheap sentiments will determine this year’s election in Kwara State. He said playing regional or religious cards would not help, but good governance and the improvement on the social well being of the people.
The minister made the remarks in Ilorin at a sensitisation forum for APC Women Leaders across the 16 Local Councils in the state. He expressed concern that political oligarchs in the state have now resorted to playing the regional and religious cards to hoodwink the people, because of their desperation to retain power.
He said: “In this season of politics, everything goes. We are therefore calling on our people to beware of those who are trying to sell snake oil to them. The issues we are concerned with here in Kwara have to do with good governance and better life for our people.
“Our problem is not ethnicity, it is not religion, and it is not even gender. These elections will not be determined on the basis of ethnicity, religion or gender. The main issues here have to do with how our state has been governed in the past 50 years, 40 of which have been dominated by them.”
Mohammed dismissed as absolute lie, the claim that some people want to take Kwara to the southwest geo-political zone. The minister recalled that at the recent launch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaigns in Kwara State, the party bigwigs claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari was the cause of the under-development in the state.
He said they ignored the fact that the Buhari rehabilitated the Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa road, which they took to Bode Saadu, where they launched their campaign.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s led Federal Government of lacking integrity.Wike further described the administration as the most corrupt since the nation gained independence. He stated this during a courtesy visit by the Board and Management of Independent Newspaper Limited on yesterday at the Government House Port Harcourt.
“There is no integrity anywhere in the administration. They sold all our valued assets and used the funds to sponsor the APC Presidential campaign, yet they claim that they have integrity,” he said. Wike commended the media for rising up in defense of the country and judiciary after the Federal Government moved to muzzle the judiciary.Managing Director of Independent Newspapers Limited Mr. Ade Ogidan, announced the nomination of Governor Wike as the Newspaper’s Political Icon of the year 2018.
