The Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for an attack on Nigeria’s largest military camp in Borno and has bragged about attacking the camp twice in less than two weeks.
The terrorist organisation revealed details about this latest attack in a formal communique and a report from its ‘Amaq News Agency on Thursday.
In the communique, the group thanked Almighty Allah for the success of the attack, noting that nine casualties were recorded.
“With success granted by Allah Almighty, this past Monday night, the soldiers of the Caliphate, using various weapons, attacked a large camp of the apostate Nigerian army in the town of Marte in the Borno region,” the communique read in part.
“It led to the death and injury of 9 elements. The mujahideen penetrated the camp and torched some of its posts as well as two vehicles, and seized several motorcycles, and unto Allah is all praise.”
This comes less than two weeks after ISWAP attacked Marte, setting vehicles that belonged to the military ablaze and killing two soldiers.
Following the May 12 attack on Marte, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, revealed that at least 20,000 people have fled the town.
The residents who fled had resettled in the community four years ago after they fled when it was rife with terrorist attacks.
They had to flee again as the region was being overrun by terrorists.
